This walk follows the bank of Maiwar, the Brisbane River, from South Brisbane to the locality of Hill End, in the suburb of West End. Whilst there are some surviving heritage sites along the way, much will rely on the walker’s imagination. For this reason, I’ve included quite a few images covering a period of almost 200 years, which represents only a minuscule time in comparison to the period of habitation of the area.
We start at the Vulture Street entrance to Southbank but the walk can of course be done in reverse, which may be more convenient for those arriving by car, as parking is much easier at West End. There are many spots to sit along the way as well as water fountains. The total distance is around 6.6km and almost totally flat. You could expect to take around 1½ to 2 hours to complete it.

I’ve recorded the walk on Wikiloc which allows the path to be followed using your phone and, if desired, downloaded. It has the full text and many images.
Alternatively, you can download or print the pdf version. Happy walking!
